It all started on a sunny autumn day: I was having a walk in Taut, a village in Arad County and at some point I saw a pile of wood that was meant for fire. Among the pieces there was a very beautiful one that touched my heart. I saw the potential it had, that with some love it could become a special piece of furniture. I asked the owner if I could have that piece and he gave it to me for free since it had no value for him.
I tried to envision it, see its lines and shapes in order to honor it, gave it a little bit of sanding, oil for nourishment and protection, fixed some cracks that were too big, made a metal structure as legs, and it became a wonderful coffee table in my living room. It still brightens up the place and gives us a lot of joy.
This piece of furniture became very appreciated and valued with the new purpose it received. That made me think a lot about our society how we also often throw away beautiful people for the simple fact that we miss to see beyond the appearance, that we consider it too much trouble to invest in something that takes time. We fail to think long term and look underneath the surface.
But what if things were different? What if the world around us started to be more about the individual than the profit? If the companies were there for you instead of you giving your all for them?
I meditated a lot about how I would like the world to look like and thought that it can start with me. I can live in a way that would honor the broken, the weak, the small. And maybe if I’m not the only one who thinks the same way, maybe together we can start working on a world that looks like that.
Surprisingly, I wasn’t the only one that wanted to live like this, so, together with a small, young but passionate Team, Kenosis was born. A place in the pursuit of building a home, a sustainable society where we can see and heart each other, be there for one another, build each other up.
Come with us on this journey to build a home!
